Name: Hilary and Kynn (mother and daughter)

Bio: Hilary was born and raised in Montana and now is a Bozeman-based artist, caregiver, and mother to Kynn. Kynn is a 5th grader who enjoys swimming, jiu-jitsu, and screen-printing.

While attending MSU, Hilary was an intern in the Masterpiece Arts Program at Whittier Elementary School and got to bring Kynn along as a toddler, where she created lessons for k-5 students and instructed on art history and basic art elements. Hilary also worked as an instructor for Little Hearts and various youth art programs at The Emerson Center For Arts and Culture that Kynn attended. Her purpose while there was to introduce young hands and minds to basic art elements.

Hilary received her BFA from Montana State University. As a young professional artist, she tells stories through her prints. Her work conveys the storytelling of relationships – most notably between women, mother and daughter.

Kynn enjoys working with all different mediums. She recently created a series of screen-printed dish towels, “Fishes for Dishes,” to raise money for a Hawaii trip.

Summary of what you will be doing during your lesson:  Make a Potato Stamp Print: Follow along and learn how to make a potato print.

Materials:

• potato (cut into thick slices)
  • paper
  • pencil
  • metal paperclip- this is your carving tool
  • acrylic paint
  • paintbrush
  • wipes for cleaning the mess
